How to correct keyboard layout??

My keyboard layout within L4C has accented characters; how do I switch back to standard QWERTY keyboard. Other apps do not have this issue.
Settings -> Language & Units -> Language is ALREADY set to "English".
Change this to another language; restart; change to English; restart; no change to behaviour.
